(does it bother anyone else that this list shows 1. that i'm an english snob imposing what i think of as "great works of art" onto everyone else 2. that i'm generating my own canon 3. that my list includes one female writer because the books like Jane Eyre and Wuthering Heights and Pig Tales that I love, I don't view as important to human kind?)

i am currently working toward my m.a. in english after 2 1/2 year spent as a creative writing student. i consider myself a prose writer, but i fake poetry and can't seem to write anything else. i'm in love with indesign and those who know all its tricks. i'm not sure what is so dazzling and exicting about page design. clearly, i delve in superficiality. i am an idealist and am still shocked every time i'm disappointed - luckily i'm also a die hard optimist. i like writing, people, movies, etc. that are quirky and delightfully strange. surprise me with something i will never expect and i will never forget.

like all my work on here, this is a work in progress. i know its bad, but i'm working on it. i know its so completely unfinished, but i'm working on that too. i want more sections for this poem. and in my attempt to want it to mean something (for the first time, really, in the history of my poetry writing), i also realize that it probably only means something to me. and also, i really like m-dashes.
a life lived for free-floating hyphens
may be superficial, but at least n-dashes
don't grow on trees, no matter how decorative
i try to be. besides, photosynthesis gives too much
undo credit, while crisp suspension is magic,
so long as white space supresses the secret.

a black slit to bring to bed, a bit of floor
for your temple is always welcome.

i wanted to write a poem about war,
but my shillelagh comes out as ink
and yours is skin and lead
and mine is more affective.
