I'm an artist...by birth and by choice... Although still trying to understand the how and the why we are here Everyday I seem to find better ways to cope with life and all its imperfections that make it so interesting...like a surrealist painting that u can barely understand but it still haunts or attracts you in ways you can not comprehend...Eventually, you either fall in love with it or drown in the hate of it.
No I didn't know that.I did the drawing while in Havana and was there to try to understand first hand what life was like there and how the Cubans felt about things in general. My first interest as far as drawing is concerned is the act of doing it and lastly as a political statement.
When you are there Gueverra's image is ubiquitous and as a consequence my pen went to work on his likeness as it did with many others including buildings cars etc.

It's hard to believe nobody has commented on this painting.Perhaps some like me are afraid of "missing the point of it" but I must confess that I viewed it when you first posted it and wouldn't get up close. Now that I have it must be said that it is marvelously evocative and open to a myriad of thoughts and connections.Kudos to you.

Is a great day outside and am promised to attend a small BBQ shortly so do not have time to give you a decent responce.I am not aware of holding back artistically speaking which doesn't mean I'm not but do agree that there is a tremendous conservative restraint in a lot of what I have done so far.My life has gone through some very radical changes in the past two years am still not quite sure how my attitude and viewpoint will be affected ultimately when things settle down, only that it has already changed and that it's not done.
This isn't going to be the answer to your question but I suggest you accept my invitation to be friends on this site and there fore access some of my past through some of my journals in the private section of qL.At the least it will give you an inkling as to my general mind set at different times of my life.In the meantime I am constantly ruminating on you valid question and wondering the same thing you are.Talk to you again,Desmond

I agree a lot of my work is kind of "academic" but through out the portfolio there has been a concerted effort to post very personal spontaneous work.I am disappointed that this wasn,t evident to you when you visited my work.I will think about this and thank you for at least having taken the time to make a comment.

Is this inspired from Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas? LOL! Simple, yet dramatic. Stay savage in your art.
