Hi! My name is Jennifer Lahotski. I’m 25 years old living in the beautiful Los Angeles, California. But, it took a long time to get here and it’s going to take even longer to get where I want to be.

I started on this wicked road called life in 1982 in Scranton, PA. Yes, Scranton, PA in US’s version of ‘The Office.’ It’s a pretty small town, but it was very close to New York and Philadelphia, making my life a little less boring, as you would think. I was an average student all through grade and high school. For fun, I did the “girly” things, I was in dance classes my entire life, I was a cheerleader, dabbled in gymnastics, and found my love for figure skating at around 15. High school was rough for me. I was never the popular kid. I was picked on for being short and for having braces and glasses at the same time. Fortunately, I made it out alive with a drive to blow all of the “popular” and “most likely to succeed” kids out of the water. I saw bright lights in my future and I was going to follow my dreams as soon as I tossed that graduation cap in the air.

College was a great stepping-stone. I was the first in my immediate family to step onto the campus of a university, the university that was 3 blocks from my house, but it worked. I made it through my first two years at a satellite campus of Penn State, and then I was onto Penn State – Main Campus. I grew up there, did an internship at Comedy Central, and was released into the real world without a clue.

After making my way out of college, I struggled and life in the real world was not so fun. I found myself a waitressing job, then a job at a make up counter, and while at it, I was found at the local bar partying my ass off, only to read about myself in the weekly weekend newspaper. Eek. It was bad times, but I finally got a grip on what I wanted in life and it didn’t involve a bar, make up, living at home with my mom and sister, and definitely not living in Scranton, PA.

After making the decision that this life was not the right path for me, I scoured the internet looking for jobs in New York and Los Angeles. I finally came across a job in LA, that I took, but it was a job that I was not qualified for, nor something I was passionate about. My bosses eventually caught on to this, and I was let go, only to go onto to 2 other jobs that a absolutely hated. But, there was a light at the end of the tunnel and I have a great place of work with fantastic people where I could be a sponge to learn a lot of things.

So, here I am now living in Brentwood, CA hungry for more. This is just a side project for me, but it’s going to be something great and I’m looking to help and share advice to people in their 20’s coming out of college-or even high school – looking for answers. Hopefully, I can cure your deer in headlights look and you’ll be well on your way through LIFE.
