Too many times I've sat awake thinking about how things could be better. And they could in so many ways. But then I have to stop myself and think about how trying to make things better, actually make things worse. I know that there are these things called "economics" and "social justice" and I also know that ne'er the two shall meet. Too often our politicians try to engineer justice into our society. This seems such a waste. Everyting works the way it must, in our little comsmos. We can take everything we want into account in engineering our country, region, city, but the only real impact we have is on our circle of friends and family. No matter what, we have those things. The addage that we should "Think Globally, and act Locally" has some meaning, but in the end, our circle of influence doesn't mean squat to some tribal fight in Pakistan. We are who we are, and do what we do. Things are the way they are and they will change, but over time, those changes will be small and seem insignificant. They are almost imperceptable, but if we look back in our history and imagine ourselves as the first colonists, wouldn't we be amazed?
Keep doing what you think is right, and those changes you make in your own life will amount to something. You will never change the world in your lifetime, but that's not what it is about, is it?
