rereading this post... i don't like my writing style.
i'm not disagreeing with anything you pointed out; merely musing that we have influence over who gets more wealth in capitalism, as much as we don't always acknowledge that power.

Call me a skeptic, but I'm pretty sure that media creates and exploits trends more than it tries to appeal to people. And you might say that I have too much faith in humanity, but I think that these corporations deliberately appeal to the negative side of our humanity, effectively MAKING US love the shit they want to sell us. But then again, I don't work for them so I don't really know

I had a few interchanges with Marshall Herskovitz, the respectful gentleman behind the quarterLife series and website.
On June 3, he had forwarded our exchanges to his Director of Legal Affairs, to pursue action on reworking the Terms. There is also an understandable disclaimer to not expect changes for a few weeks - qL is updating to a shiny new website:
I actually was aware of this...ok not all of it, but majority. And...I'm slightly ok with it. I'll find it flattering if anyone wants to use my writing in anything. I doubt it'll take me anywhere.

lol. An interesting new tidbit I learnt is that images of such popular works effectively belong in the public domain.

Is this supposed to be post apocalyptic? It's freakin eye popping and mind boggling fantastic. Did you combine several iconic buildings/structures in history together in this one piece.
A new community for artists and creative minds - and a new
Internet series from Marshall Herskovitz and Edward Zwick, the creative minds behind "My So-Called Life" and "Blood Diamond."
Commerce tells you to buy new goods and throw out your outdated ones - consumership is what your life is worth. Realize that you are a container of life (the thing that anti-abortionists and anti-stem cell people fight for)... and start valuing yourself. Get naked and love yourself. (literally or metaphorically)

Why does an advertiser get paid more than a humanitarian? Why does a cosmetologist get paid more than a doctor? Why does an athlete get paid more than a teacher?
Because people want it that way.
Thats how the (free market) private sector works. You determine who gets paid more by your consumption of their messages and products. Commercial interests (advertisers) flock around the people that you like to watch, listen to and get entertained by.
If you attend a river cleanup or protest, advertisers are likely to be active in those communities vs. if you watch MTV, then advertisers are likely to pay that channel, its producers..., and you're being entertained with raunchy music videos, messages of ads, poor behavior (sluts and players, anorexia), poor hygiene ( i just wanted to toss that in here), and honestly, fucking garbage.) Really... fucking waste of time, mind-debilitating, and let me emphasize again, fucking garbage. (MTV is cleaning up some of their shit, but I use the example to convey the point. And still there is nothing more empowering than actually expressing your values, instead of absorbing others'.)
The major deviations from the rule (of voting with your money) are public institutions and 'altruistic' interests (the two are not synonymous.) Government-funded institutions are the major commercial factors influenced by your political vote. Your Congress decides what to fund and what not to fund based on political interest. (ie. PBS, Drug Criminalization, Dept. of Education, Homeland Security...) Whereas the Internet (YouTube, Net Neutrality, Open Source...) bases some of 'its' activity on other interests - a lot of the www is based on principles other than economic gain. (ie. wanting to be heard (blogging), wanting to send a message (hacking), wanting to make a product that you want to use (Linux, Wikipedia)...)
...
Think about how you spend your time and money.
Read a book. (or good online journals or Wikipedia or those knowledge videos on YouTube or listen to 'healthy' music)
Let love be your driving force.
