You have a point. People like Common, The Roots, & Lupe Fiasco, all have positive messages in their songs but don't get the recognition they deserve

I agree completely. I think people are afraid to actually listen and have to think about songs.

Lupe Fiasco is doing quite well right now, actually, with "Superstar" climbing to No. 11 on this week's Hot 100. And The Cool is pretty damn good, even if he does lay the message on a little too thick sometimes.

That is true. The Cool is an amazing album.

I've heard of K-OS. Another great hip-hop artist that tends to go unnoticed.
they are fantastic! their lyrics are so powerful.
I too agree wholeheartedly

you forgot about talib kweli, he belongs in that group as well!

You're so right...I totally forgot about him!

I don't even understand that superman song. I'm sure I don't even want to know.
It's about fucking a girl and jacking off on her back when shes asleep, and than sticking a sheet to it so that it sticks to her when she wakes up.

At least thats what the chorus is saying, the rest is just him saying no one can do it like him and that the listeners are idiots.

It's hard to believe this is the same person who wants his teacher to "Throw some D's!" on his report card.

I will admit, however, the dance is fun to do when you're just goofing around...but that's about it.

By jove! I think she's got it!

It just goes to show you, takes absolutely NO talent to be a rapper. for example: "D4L - Laffy Taffy", "Kelis - Milkshake", "DJ Webstar - Chicken Noodle Soup"...Do you see where I am going with this?
Personally, I think that it takes little talent to be in the "popular" music world these days. I think the truly meaningful artists, with powerful messages, tend to be a bit hidden, but are really worth looking for.

he C L E A R L Y states that as a joke and as a pun on I believe 3 Six Mafia's "Throw Some D's". It may not be the BEST way to make a joke but it is pretty clever

blakjay22: March 07, 2008 - 07:23 PM PST And another great rapper with positive messages -- and who gets even less recognition -- is Ms. Dynamite. Want a great smack down of gangsta rap? Look no further:

I get what you're saying but I think Kelis is an immensely talented artist who often gets boiled down to just "Milkshake" or "Bossy"...and even then, they're far more playful and creatively bouncy than most other popular hip-hop songs.
