                                      WELCOME TO QUARTERLIFE!

quarterlife is a social network for creative, thoughtful people -- artists, musicians, filmmakers, students, designers, activists -- people with dreams.  We've spent many months building the site, and we're still working to make it great.  Your suggestions are always welcome!

                          HERE ARE SOME IMPORTANT THINGS TO KNOW ABOUT QUARTERLIFE

First -- the heart of quarterlife is what we call UGQ -- User Generated Quarterlife -- and it refers to all the artwork, photos, videos, writing -- everything -- our users upload.  When you upload a piece of work in your Works section, you're asked to choose a "Channel" (such as Photography, Writing, Music, etc.).  If you pick a channel, that piece of work will show up on that channel as well as on your own Portfolio.  If you don't choose a Channel, it will just be seen in your Portfolio.  Remember, you can also choose for a piece of work to remain private, visible only to you, or, if you want, visible only to you and your friends.

We want your Works section to be your place for organizing your creativity.  Soon you'll be able to have multiple Portfolios, so that you can have one, for instance, for your professional photos and another for your personal ones.  Or one just for your music, etc.  In a couple months we're also introducing editing tools for pictures and videos in your Works section, so that it can be even more useful to you.

Second -- we want our members to get to know each other.  Now you can browse our UGQ pages, and sort them by Channel, or ranking, or popularity, or date.  See if you can become a Top User in your area of interest.  Our community is built on respect for the artist, for the authentic vision of each person.  You'll find the comments on your work almost always to be constructive and helpful.

Here are two other recent developments in quarterlife's new beta version:

On your "My Studio" page you'll now find "My Unauthorized Biography".  This is a new concept, unique to quarterlife, that allows people you know to talk about who you are.  This is more than just "commenting" -- it's meant to help the world understand what you're like as a person -- your history, your passions, your quirks, your influences.  This is NOT your autobiography -- it's meant for other people to talk about you.  Of course you can delete any posts you find offensive, and you can leave your own posts to rebut your friends ridiculous opinions -- but it's meant to be a composite picture of how your world sees you.  Who knows, you might even learn something from it!

Another new feature is "About Me", which you'll find if you click on the "Edit My Info" button.  This gives you a chance to write about yourself, to tell the world what you think should be known about you.  Use it however you want, but remember that this is a community of intelligent, creative people, each of whom is a complicated individual.  Let people know who you really are, and what makes you unique.

The quarterlife community is growing fast, and so is the site.  Soon we'll have site-wide bulletins, so that you can find crews for your projects, or buy and sell equipment, or find work.

We'll finally have groups, both public and private, so users can extend their relationships with one another.

The QUARTERLIFE INTERNSHIP PROGRAM is coming!  Keep watching the site for information about this new way for students and post-grads to learn more about the fields that interest them!
