I wrote the title cut, based on the little known historical fact that the area's first people called this place 'Tchoupitoulas', which meant Dancing Ground...and we do dance here. We live to dance and increasingly in this post-Katrina world, dance to live! We got together with the Wild Tchoupitoulas Mardi Gras Indians and recorded the tune, brought forward as a call home to our

These costumes/outfits are awesome. So unapologetically expressive and bold.

RE: Blues ... you are so right. Hendrix himself once said that playing the blues is easy but feeling the blues is hard ... learning how to make yourself vulnerable musically is a *huge* risk, very scary. Anyway thanks for your comments. :)

Stop the Demolition of New Orleans! Dec. 10, 2007

Dec 03, 2007

All~ This is important ~ The Feds are getting ready to destroy the homes of New Orleans Public Housing residents - a call to action below from the People's Hurricane Relief group. It should be noted that New Orleans public housing is not that of other cities, like Chicago's 27 story human warehouses, Cabrini Green, but rather well built by New Orleans craftsmen and artisans - low-rise 3 story townhouse style - and of particular interest to the artists and creative folks on Quarterlife - most were places of high creative density - while called "concentrations of poverty" by those that want to tera down and make big money redeveloping - these neighborhoods were really "concentrations of creativity", where musicans, visual artists, theater folks and others all came together to create New Orleans unique culture!!!"Please support the efforts to stop the demolitions! Thanks, Sneakin' Sal

*CALL TO ACTION: Pledge of resistance in defense of the right to housing in New Orleans and the Gulf Coast *

*December 10th is Human Rights Day. Come to New Orleans December 10th and join the Stop the Demolition Coalition as we mount a campaign to stop the demolition of public housing.

**The demolition of all four major public housing developments has been set for mid-December. We are calling on our national allies to join with the residents of New Orleans and all those who believe in the human right to housing to resist demolition. *
We ask that all those interested in coming to New Orleans to contact us before making the journey. We need to ensure that everyone coming is registered, properly orientated and trained in order to partake in this act
of resistance *in the manner determined by the local leaders and residents*.
Please contact us via email at action@peopleshurricane.org, with the
word "registration" in the subject line. * Please include the following information:

Name:
Affinity Group/Organization (if applicable):
Phone:
Email:
Have you ever received any training in civil disobedience?
What skills/resources are you able to bring to New Orleans?

Remember - the primary role of people coming to New Orleans to join in this fight is to be ALLIES, and not to be part of major decision making.

Peace
