How can you describe a person, when even the word itself is difficult to define?
Is it enough to give a simple like or dislike?

I like reading. I'm a fan of Shakespeare and Blake and E.E.Cummings, Jane Austin, Margaret Atwood, Philip Pullman. I'm secretly in love with Mr.Darcy. I love music - can't imagine a life without it. I play the piano, fiddle about with the guitar, I sing and I used to dance ballet and jazz. I like spring, new beginnings; I like walks in the countryside, days spent on the beach, lazing in the sun. I like making new friends, travelling & going abroad. I like hot baths, vanilla milkshake, chocolate. I love my cat.

I used to be terrified of exams, when I was still studying science. I hate mosquitoes because they literally tear me to pieces. I'm scared of losing the people I love, and growing less scared of change (who isn't??). I don't like being let down by people - I often expect too much out of everyone around me, including myself.

And that doesn't even begin to describe me. Here are some more facts:

I'm 20 years old. I have one sister who is 16. When I went into hospital to have my appendix removed I decided I wanted to be a doctor. I was 8. I studied sciences but didn't get the grades for Medical School. I spent a year repeating my exams, to get the exact same mark in my failing subject (Chemistry). I'm doing law instead.
Languages fascinate me. I can speak four: Maltese, English, French & Italian. I teach English to foreign students (mostly Europeans or from Eastern countries) in summer - my part time job. I adore teaching, but it doesn't pay that much.
I always wanted a career. I always wanted to be my own person.

There are so many things I haven't said about myself - like how much I love children, and writing. How I've written a novel, but given up on its being published.

How it's 9.30 pm, how I've only just arrived from a long day at university, how much I miss my mother who works far away from us, how my cat is curled up on my knees, sleeping, and how my dad is listening to this incredibly dragging noise (which he calls a song)...

How if asked the question, I would describe myself as gentle and diplomatic, and hope that these are not the qualities I wish I had, or the person I wish I were, but who I am in reality. Who Roxanne Borg is.

If you are interested in languages and law, and adore teaching, you should look into studying history. Of course, like you said, it doesn't pay that much.
