Take Back the Night- NYC Style
Apr 07, 2008 - 08:24 AM PST
Most of you have probably heard of take back the night- most likely on one of your college campuses. This is the first time New School University is doing one and someone I know is running it so I wanted to get as many people out as possible. So I am reaching out to my fellow quarterlifers.
The event is Wednesday April 9th. The event was thought up by two Milano graduate students who were surprised that nothing of this sort was at the New School (ie. No rape crisis center or hotline, prevention or response programs etc). They reached out to Steve McAllister, the head of the Office of Student Development Activities, who has a 10 year background in sexual violence prevention, and who is looking to bring more of these programs at the New School. Moxie, the feminist group, is helping out, but it is the initiative of two students, David and Golzar, whose last names elude me.
Here is the breakdown:
8-9 PM: Peaceful march of solidarity starting at 65 5th avenue, around Union Square and ending at 55 W 13th street
9PM Candelit vigil in memory of those who have lost their lives
Following this, everyone will join upstairs at the Theresa Lang center, on the 2nd Floor of 55W 13th will be s safe space testimonial portion where survivors and allies can speak.
It should be really nice...all are welcomed. Come out
