A Little About Me

I thought it might be a good idea to introduce myself.

My name is Laila. I never really had that traditional lifestyle or childhood. Actually, I wouldn't call what I had a childhood at all. My parents converted to Islam when I was 2, so I was placed (yes, actually placed..like an object) in certain schools and taught three languages - Farsi/Persian, Arabic, & Pashto. I respect Islam a lot. It's a beautiful religion, but my parents used my ignorance as a child against me - lying about what Islam really was. It wasn't until I was fourteen or so that I realized that they weren't really Muslim at all. But, enough of that...I clashed with my parents a lot throughout high school, but not because I wanted to do drugs or drink all of the time but because I had opinions. I learned very quickly that I should keep quiet about my beliefs, but I can't seem to do so. It's funny, though, that my beliefs correlate with Islam more than my parents' beliefs.

Moving on, I moved out at 16 to LA to live with my cousin. She basically lived at school, so I was alone and started taking care of myself more - from shopping to cooking, etc. I became really interested in literature and music. I just wanted to expose myself to everything that I wasn't allowed to as a kid - from different types of music to photography to film. Luckily, LA is a great place to do that.

So, when I graduated high school, I decided to take some time off, then go to college, but I've realized that's not I want (for now, at least). I just want to volunteer for awhile and work on the side to make sure I have a place to live and food to eat.

Up until a few weeks ago, I admired musicians, writers, photographers, etc. so much that I wouldn't even try to have their courage. Might sound weird - but it takes so much to put yourself out there for the entire world to judge your work, your passion, the thing that you slaved over and stripped your mind and soul for...So, I'm taking some chances now and following my real passion: writing.

Let's see...did I miss anything? Oh, I love doing the LA Times crossword puzzles. So difficult to do, but I do it every morning. I try to cook as well as I can, but I can't lie and say I didn't live off of Ramen noodles for about two years. I love collages and most of my walls are filled with them. My two favorite things to learn about, besides literature, are usually languages and physics. Weird combo, yeah, but the string theory is pretty damn amazing. I have had two boyfriends - one that was just a typical high school, almost pointless (for me at least) thing that I can hardly remember and another that I really wanted to work, but we grew apart. I have a thing for sappy movies. It's terrible, I know, but I can't help it. I'm looking - or probably just waiting - for love. Someone to hold and someone to hold me...that I can talk to.

I guess that's much too long for anyone to read...In case you haven't noticed, I ramble.

Laila - I really enjoyed reading this---I hope being a member in the qLife community helps YOU to develop your artistic endeavors, like it's done for me. I look forward to seeing MORE from you...

wow, you've led quite a life so far. I can't begin to imagine what things were like for you as a child. As for love, it will find you, when least expected. that's how it works.

I was wondering, which string theory was your favorite, since there's 7. :)

I think being artistic is easy. It's being yourself. Slaving over a job you hate, is...terribly hard.

I wrote something about ramen noodles once, "Top ramen is a problem when you've had every flavor/ And your savior is fresh blades for your razor"

And you should never wait for love. Love isn't some giant in the hills. It's already inside us. You have to find your counterpoint yourself. And take it.

Well at least there's more of us out there that aren't boring, to say the least. :P
