I'd love to move to Japan to run away from my credit card debt :P How's your mastery of the language coming along? Is it still difficult since everyone speaks English there? Have you tried language immersion and being around people who only speak Japanese? It worked for Tom Cruise in that movie "The Last Samurai" :P Your sign-offs are the cutest/dorkiest/coolest btw.

Travel is perhaps the best way to ascertain who you are and what you value. It sounds like you're traveling for the same reasons I did, to learn. What you learn while you're in a different place is something you can use in everyday life when you eventually return, if you decide that's what you want/can do. In some ways I feel my abroad experiences were of greater value than my overall college career. No regrets. No running. Just journey...ing. Hope you're enjoying the ride! :)

You know, I think I'm one of those people you describe as running away from things. I'm basically addicted to moving. It's not that I'm feigning responsibility... it's just that it's so interesting to start over new. I don't really dislike living any one particular place--it was really weird coming back to Grand Forks and going from a complete recluse to someone who is barely ever home in a matter of a week. It's just so strange. I know when I go back to Nashua it's going to be another life reversal all over again. And then I'll be moving to Oklahoma. And then back to Michigan. It's exciting!

People move to different areas of the country or even the world for many different reasons. It doesnt really matter what it is as long as you are not running away from responsibility. So you may go to another country and part of the draw there could be that it is nothing like your life so far, but that is not a bad thing. I wish more people would go live somewhere completely different so that they could have a more worldly view.
