AP STUDIO SUMMER ASSIGNMENTS

You must complete three of the four following assignments over the summer. They will be due the first week of school. They need to be critique ready. The assignments must be AP portfolio quality and will be averaged into the first six weeks grade. Please work from life rather than relying on photos.

1. Vantage Point Project:
Drawing or painting that is 30"x40". It is to be a self-portrait utilizing an unusual vantage point. This cannot be a straight-forward portrait. The composition must be unique and you must specifically use one of these devices:
1. A very unusual mirror placement. Use the mirror to create compositional interest.
2. An elaborate costume.
3. An animal
4. A very unique location

2. Water Project:
A portrait drawing or painting utilizing water in a significant way. The portrait subject cannot be drinking water or holding a glass of water. Be creative. The water must be well executed. Must be 18"x24".

3. Line Project:
You are to draw a subject, landscape, or still life experimenting with several linear techniques (gestural, contour, hatching or crass-hatching, ect...). Several types of line need to be used in the drawing. Create texture and volume with the lines. The paper must be thoroughly worked with line throughout. Value differences will need to be a main consideration in the art work. You may consider the drawings of Philip Pearlstein, Henry Moore, Thomas Eakins, Edward Hopper and Jim Dine. Must be 18"x24".

4. Machine-Made Project:
A 36"x36" drawing or painting of a very complex mechanical/architectural object or objects. This artwork must be about man made machines and or creations and their uses. It can be a single object or many objects. You mat have a figure or figures using or controlling the machines or spaces. I am looking for a complex drawing or painting. A very crowded picture plane.
