apparently I'm not a writerMar 06, 2008 - 15:15 PM PST My sister is a writer. She has been a writer, well, since birth. She wrote her first novel during NaNoWriMo in November. My brother is a writer. Well, sort of. He started writing a novel years ago and my family apparently thought it was the greatest thing since sliced bread. But I am not a writer. They have told me this. I have never tried to write a novel, but with the non-encouragement, why would I even try. Instead, we were discussing when it is best to write and I made a comment that they said was wrong which I would have known, if I was a writer. But of course, I don't know any better. They feel that the best time to write is at night. I could agree that writing comes easily at night, if I wanted to lie. But I know, from my experience in the past, I wrote my poetry at all times of day. Morning, noon, night. What matters is that you write. That is what makes you a writer. You can edit later if you think that your work needs it, but work is not better based on the time of day it is written. And seriously? I don't have to write a novel to be a writer. And I don't have to be a writer to have good imput or knowledge. Telling me what I am or what I am not is just disrespectful when it comes from a place of convoluted superiority. |
