Artist StatementMar 14, 2008 - 19:36 PM PST I'm a writer. I'm a poet. I'm a filmmaker. I'm a photographer. I'm a painter. I'm an artist. We live in a world where we are engulfed by structure and its boundaries. A world that dictates so much that as comparative religion professor and author of "The Hero with A Thousand Faces" Joseph Campbell once said "societies pressure mount to the point that you barely know who the hell you are." This is the work our creation, our society has given us a passive consent and an everyday anonymity. Such monotony takes its toll on us, driving us into claustrophobic corners or utter conformity; it drains our creative spirit and our bursts of spontaneity. It is through my art in all its disciplines whether prose, poetry, or visual that I seek to de-construct reality in search of beauty, as Graham Greene once wrote, "Destruction is a form of creation." I just want to see what happens when we pull the world apart. |
