as if

So last night I noticed that CMT had on the 40 sexiest music videos. CMT being country so the videos would be specific, but the list actually surprised me. I can't actually find the list posted online, but as opposed to only the obvious sexy videos (you know the type I'm talking about, guys with shirts off and girls in lingerie - aka - Trace Adkins' "Hot Mama" where he sees his wife as the title or Rascal Flatts' "I Melt" which feature's Joe Don's naked behind and a pampered woman for each of the guys - which I don't know if were in it because I only saw part), they also had videos that were less obvious. Like Sara Evans' "As If."
"As If" is about a woman who is sick of meeting men the old-fashioned way and goes to a store where male-types are mass produced. She first buys the hot surfer-type guy who doesn't button up his shirt. He is delivered to her door in a big box full of peanuts. When he doesn't work out, she returns him and gets the bad boy type wearing a tight black tank and jeans. He's too moody so she returns him and settles for the happy-go-lucky type, always with a dumb grin on his face. All of the guys clean the house, but none of them satisy her and Mr Happy-Go-Lucky actually cleans dishes and drops them on the floor when she decides to return him. The video end with her deciding to take a chance on the real man... the delivery guy who has been bringing each of the "types" to her door.
Really? Is it that easy? The video reminds me of the movies Can't Buy Me Love and Love Don't Cost a Thing, since it consists of paying for love. Of course she ends up with a totally different person, but that's because you shouldn't fall for a "type." People are too complex and break the mold. You're never just one thing, probably because if we were, we could be in a movie, or a video, or a book, and that's all that we would be. Not individuals.

I like being an individual, though I wouldn't mind having someone in my life that could actually see it. The perpetually single aspect of my individuality sucks.

I think the real point of the video is that you never know when or where you'll meet someone great. She doesn't find "Mr Right" when she tries to find him, he really just happens to show up. At least that's my take, considering that's how I feel about it anyway. That when the time is right it'll happen. God has a plan.
