behind my eyes

blue eyes
stormy skied seas
washing broken bottles
ashore rain ever
drip dripping
on dilapidated
lifeguard towers
secret kisses
in their musty remains
the scent of old wood
and my tears
drip
dripping
cutting my cheeks
shattered glass
for the long-limbed boy
of four teen summers
— accumulated Julys --
fireworks dripping
below the horizon
over the water
half moons hung
to drip dry
as starlings
dissolve into
predawn blackness
against glassy reflections
splitting image
haunted his eyes
stare through shifting
ripples
met
meet
meeting
mine
and the rain
falls like tears
and tears
don’t fall
but freeze
on half-closed eyelids
mascaraed lashes
