Can't we just be friends?

I have gotten so many "are you dating him?" questions in the last 3 months. My best friend and I are really close, and don't mind sitting on a couch cuddling (and have done so on many occassions). But the thing is, I have NO romantic feelings for him. At all. And a bunch of my friends know my history with other people and know that I would never be caught in a relationship with this friend. So I wonder why people won't just leave me alone and let me just be friends with others. I'm a very open person around my friends, and we all normally end up on a couch somewhere with everyone. Nothing bad, just us chilling. And yet the questions keep pouring in. I don't want to have to change how I act to prove to people that I'm not interested in this guy. But getting asked by so many people is so annoying. I wish I could just walk around with a sign saying "i'm not dating ____!" I'm upset that he's going off to college and I have to wait around my town for another year, but at least people won't be asking anymore...
