City LightsApr 15, 2008 - 18:47 PM PST This one I wrote last december... when I was dreaming about going to the city. I've lived just outside of cities my whole life. I've never been to New York, Chicago, Boston... only "big" city I've ever been to is Seattle. So this sprung from wanting to live in a big city, and maybe what would happen if I did. City Lights Small town girl, wanted something new, so she ran away. Early in the morning, left only a note, didn’t have nothing to say Except, I decided to go away to the city. I don't ever have to sleep, and the lights, they look so pretty. I'm not coming home, I need to be off on my own. I'll be a hundred miles away, finally alone New city girl, bussing tables, trying to make the rent By the time she paid the bills, and bought her food, everything was spent, But she said: I found my way to the city. I don't really have to sleep, and the lights, they look so pretty. I'm never going home, I'm off on my own I'm a hundred miles away, and I'm all alone. Old city girl, thinks about home, sitting in her lonely chair She closes her eyes, dreams of old friends, looks up, and no one's there, She thinks: Why the hell did I ever go to the city? I'm not getting any sleep, and these lights, they ain't so pretty I just wanna go home, I hate being all alone But it's just too late, I can't go back anymore. I screamed, Why the hell did I ever go to the city? I'm not getting any sleep, and these lights, they ain't so pretty. I just wanna go home, I hate being all alone. But it's just too late, I can't go back anymore It's just too late, I can't go back anymore. |
