die by surprise

what if i die by surprise
caught with a bullet right between the eyes
after all my battles have been fought
and it all comes down to one final thought
a wandering life filled with every mistake
and this half-empty glass wonders
how long til i break
what will it be, the last song to be sung
the last taste or disgrace to trail over my tongue
a cumulative effort, a work in progress
a mix of mystery, all calm and distress
what will i think of in my last waking sigh
all along did i know this is how i would die
will i ponder the magic or tragic evets
or wish there was one with which i had made amends
will i pray to a god i know isn't real
or will i wait for someone to tell me how to feel
