“Excuses are like assholes”

Mar 03, 2008 - 06:48 AM PST

Before I go any further I must say that I am probably just as guiltier in this as the next person. I just do not understand why we make up excuses in life 95% of the time. It doesn’t matter what it is about. If we are bent on not doing something or going somewhere or believing in something, we 95% of the time have an EXCUSE why. Usually they don’t even amount up to anything but the “Because I said so” Cliché.
Is this because we refuse to see or do things differently? Do we have legitimate reasoning? Are we just so uncomfortable with exploration and open thinking that we will just throw anything out there to get away from it? For instance, how do you know if you are going to like a new food if you do not try it first? Many people are like this. I don’t like red meat, I don’t like seafood, I don’t like sushi, I don’t like Chinese food, It’s always I don’t, I don’t, I don’t. I don’t get on roller coasters, they give me headaches. I didn’t go to the park and exercise today because it was cold outside. Why is it that we live in such a negative perspective? Do we not have the ability to be completely honest with each other? At least be honest with yourself. I just don’t like roller coasters. I eat fish, but I have never given sushi the chance and I’m just not interested in eating raw fish. I didn’t exercise today because I was freaking lazy. Not because it is cold outside. Not because you knew you would be miserable from being cold. If you knew you were going to be miserable because it is cold, do something about it. Dress appropriately, instead of throwing out useless excuses. We know you didn’t do it, simply because you just didn’t want to in the first place. If you want to lie to everyone that is fine, just don’t lie to yourself. Pathetic.
