For the 343

Passive remembrence of you makes me wonder
you come sit with me when it rains and thunders
you give me your hand when my legs are weak
You stare as you cry as do as you speak
A mountain is not too far to climb
the wind passes through with a wail and whine
the sky lights up from the ground to the clouds
I swear I can see, for miles around,
Your shadow stands so vaguely in the night
You keep me warm without fear or fright
you left me once but never again
for you are with me from now until then
when they called you out, you stayed with courage
with the fact that you might miss or leave a hostage
The fire raged as the steel crumbled
you continued on, without being humble
It must be hard to climb stairs that are falling
but you braved the blaze and kept on hauling
When you woke up, the gates had opened
tears in their eyes, but none had spoken
you are the hero there is no doubt
There are no more missions for you to carry out.
I will follow the path that you have given.
I will swear to your family that i have not forgotten.
Three Hundred and Forty Three died that day.
But none will vanish or be washed away.

An awesome tribute and elegy for your fallen brothers at arms. Given the poem structure and the subject matter I am reminded of Alfred, Lord Tennyson's "Charge of the Light Brigade". 600 British soldiers fell at the hands of the Prussian army. "There's was not to reason why/there's was not to make reply/There's was but to do and die...Into the valley rode the 600."
