future careersMar 09, 2008 - 09:48 AM PST So I have one year left of college and no idea what to do. I want to use my creativity in a positive way, but I had a professor tell me that there is no way that even an extremely talented writer can make it in the "real world." How horrible is that when someone you look up to tells you there is no way you can do what you really want to do. Ugh. So now I am struggling to find something else to base my future on and am floundering. What kind of future does an English major have if not writing? Creative writing that is, I don't think I could write for a newspaper and have all of my ideas cut down to what they expect to be correct. Is my future career dependent upon retail? I hate retail and yet have worked in that arena since I was 16. I hope to do some sort of marketing or advertising, but as an English major no one really wants to take me seriously. I guess I am just confused, and no one seems to understand. |
