I Love You? I Love You Not...

Who changed the meaning of "I love you"?
Honestly? And why didn't I get the memo?

Maybe I've been living in my own little fairy tale world.

I love you has always meant to me:
-I will be by your side
-I will protect you
-I will try and work things out
-I won't give up hope
-I trust you
-I will be your shoulder to cry on
-I will be the arms that hold you
-I care about you
-I accept you as you are and never expect you to be anyone else
-I understand or do my best to understand what you're going through

.... I love you....

Whether it's love between a child and a parent, two friends, or two lovers - Who decided to change the meaning of Love? Why does it have so many stipulations, conditions and amendments?

-I'll love you until things get tough
-I'll love you if you buy me things
-I'll love you because we're family and have no choice
-I'll love you if you satisfy me
-I'll love you when it's convenient for me
-I'll love you until life gets busy
-I'll love you until you go against my word
-I'll love you if you do what I ask
-I'll love you if......

And when did people start believing they are so undeserving of innocent love?

-You can't love me, I lose my temper
-You can't love me, I get depressed
-You can't love me, I'll push you away
-You can't love me, I'm not perfect
-You can't love me, I'll hurt you in some way
-You can't love me, I won't let you in
-You can't love me, I've already disappointed you

Why?? Why is this happening? Is there no one out there that believes in pure, innocent love?

Very interesting. And a great observation. Well written as well. It makes me want to blaim our culture, and society. The need that everyone somehow feels to be perfect, brought upon such material possessions. Just some thoughts. =)
