Imprinted Memory

Feb 25, 2008 - 11:53 AM PST

"i love you"
a whisper escapes from my lips
the words hang in the air like cigarette smoke
in front of us, in the dark
and the pressure around my heart
that i aimed to be lifted
tightens into a chokehold
"I love you too"
i hear come from the warm body beside me
..
"love", i think
the death grip grows fatal
thats when my eyes begin to water
and you can feel the shakes in my body

______________________

i watch you as you sit there
my head rests in your lap
your hand cups my cheek
comfortably
"sometimes", i think "my heart aches for no apparent reason"
..
"im sorry that i cry"
you look at me with those bland brown eyes
your face is too wide
your chin is too flat
you are not perfect
you are human
..and i love you
you slowly drag the thumb of your cupped hand across my face, touching my mouth and chin
"cry if you need to... I'll hold you until youre done"

I like this poem very much.
You can feel the intensity of the moment
as if you were an omniscient figure
in the moment.
Is this a recent or faded memory?
