Keep Going

I have been inspired by Hilary Clinton, her speech at the 2008 Democratic National Convention, and the words of Harriet Tubman that Senator Clinton referenced...

“If you hear the dogs, keep going. If you see the torches in the woods, keep going. If they’re shouting after you, keep going. Don’t ever stop. Keep going. If you want a taste of freedom, keep going.”

It almost brings me to tears to think that human beings were hunted down with dogs in the dark of night simply because of the color of their skin. They were considered property, no different from farm equipment, and when they tried to escape a life of being owned as property they were hunted and beaten.

If those people, those slaves, could maintain some sort of focus and hope for freedom and happiness, then so can I. No matter how dark I feel, I have to keep going. I wish I could have heard this quote a couple weeks ago.
