Pattengil MONSTERSMar 23, 2008 - 20:37 PM PST OK...so this is the real story about that intense basketball game!! It was so amazing to be playing in...you don't know how hard we worked to stop this team!! It may sound odd cause again, this is a Language Arts piece!! “Come on girls it’s our last game! We can do it,” Hannah Femia screamed to us. Its half time and boy are our bodies dripping with sweat as we pant from the most exhausting game this year. Not only is there perspiration beads forming on our face, but the blood from a rough battle drips out of the scars that we acquired from this massive war. Pools of sweat and blood are forming in the girls’ locker room floor. Obviously, this game has been pretty tough. So much so, that we had to swiftly and efficiently derive a new defense the day before for one of their most competitive and skilled players, number 43. Before the game we had talked to this super player and she seemed pretty nice. Oh wow, were we wrong. Not only was she a phenomenal basketball player, but she was ambidextrous, super fast, and above all that, she could touch the rim! I swear this girl already had college scouts looking at giving her scholarships she was so amazing. After a rough day before, now we had to correctly execute it so we could stop the unstoppable. I’m telling you, this was one rough game. The whole time we were ever so close in score. Even though we had a small lead of 10 in the beginning, after the first quarter, they came back hard with great shots. Now we were ever so close in score. We’d score; they’d score, and so on. I felt proud of myself because Mr. Fountain, our coach, had put me as one of the guards of number 43 in our new defense were we had to double-team her when she was in the game. This was by far one of the hardest defensive spots throughout the game. Still, Chloe, the other guard, and I had played close defense and were doing a pretty good job at keeping this girl from scoring. Other than the occasional fast-break away lay-up, she didn’t get too many jump shots. Not to toot our own horns or anything though. “Let’s go out there and show them what we’re made of. Come on its now or never! Leave it all on the court and give it our all!” I yelled. The score was now 23-24, us winning by one at half time. A lot of these points were scored by our star player of the game, Sarah Metcalf. Seriously, this girl was getting beat on. Foul after foul. She shot more free throws than I think she had shot the whole year this game. Combined first and second half, I’d say she shot about thirteen free throws and made seven of them. Number 43 had even fouled Sarah and slammed the ball on the floor, causing her to get her 4th foul plus a technical foul eliminating her from the game and giving Sarah three shots! She made two of them! This was definitely her game…she was on fire!! Tears flowing, we cross our fingers and gaze at our opponents. It’s now or never! Fourteen seconds left in the game and we are up by one! Can we keep our lead? I HOPE SO!! Hoping and praying that when the get the ball they don’t score, we watch intently. Alas, they score a jump-shot and now we’re down by one with five seconds to go. Quickly, we inbound the ball to Sarah. As she is about to shot and the clock is going to run out, luckily she gets fouled. The clock has literally run out. Though the score board says zero seconds left, the buzzer hadn’t rang indicating that there are only milliseconds left in the game. Sarah had to score both of the free throws to win and one to tie. While the whole crowd is dead silent, she shots the first ball…SWISH!!! Now we’re tied! The most intense part of the game was here. We are going INSANE on the inside hoping for our final game against one of the toughest teams to be a win. She prepares her shot and lets the ball go flying into the air. It seemed to take forever for the ball to start heading down. For the next second, the ball circles around the rim. Will it go in? Or, will it go out? IT WENT IN!!! We’re up by one and they can’t take the lead away anymore. We have won the game! Shaking, well attempting to, their hands was tough for them and most of the players from Pattengil just glared at us and told us to get out of their faces. Too bad…we didn’t care, we just won!! What a way to end a season! |
