St. Patrick's Day

Note: I wrote this a long time ago on a whim and thought I would post it just for fun. For MB who always wanted me to write about rainbows and sunshine instead of all that other dreary stuff.

I ate a Skittle yesterday
and contemplated a rainbow
I want to meet a Leprechaun,
or at least a real Irishman
and get drunk with him,
preferably on Saint Patrick’s Day
even though I’m not Irish.
I wonder if he’d wear green all the time,
like Irish-Americans do
and if he could out drink me
(a German, thank you very much.)
I’d probably giggle at his accent
and ask his if he’s ever eaten
Lucky Charms or seen those
ridiculous Guinness commercials that
(if you ask me)
aren’t really so “BRILLIANT!”
I wonder if he would have red hair,
Aren’t all Irishmen supposed to have red hair?
And all the women too?
Just a whole country full of carrot tops
(which I’ve learned from experience
not to call an angered red-head.)
I took an Irish-lit class once,
But honestly,
I don’t know a thing about the Irish
Except they get mad if you wear orange
on St. Patty’s day.
