These Light, Airy Things

I wish I could write
these light, airy things
of no importance,

little girls in lavender
blowing dandelion seeds
across my lawn

and cursing them aloud
when I’m on my hands and knees
in a sea of too-cheerful yellow

pulling them out by the root
and leaving scars in the sweep of green
where grass refuses to heal itself
