Unintended side effect of book burning

Feb 27, 2008 - 11:33 AM PST

So yea...it's been annoying me for quite some time now...but this blog was pretty much inspired by a news article I read stating that the Vatican was calling for a boycott from the world's catholic community of "The Da Vinci Code". This of course ensuring that I would go see the Da Vinci Code.....and I wan't my 2 hours and 43 minutes back. I blame the pope for this. I did not read TDVC. I do not intend to read TDVC. The only reasons I went and saw the movie was my love of Tom Hanks, my personal belief that Ron Howard is infallable, and the Pope condemned it. I left the theatre bewildered, angered, and annoyed. I remember thinking to myself...I've seen this before.....oh yea...it was called "The Fifth Element". The only difference was the Fifth Element was entertaining.

So this brings me to my point. When will the Vatican realize that calling for boycotts only makes them more popular? It's fucking ridiculous. Everything is blasphemy. Harry Potter, one of the most important book series, if not thee most important book series of our generation because it is single handdedly responsible for getting millions of kids to read....is banned by the Vatican. The catholic religion is a parody of itself at this point. Don't get me wrong, the muslims fucking killing people over some stupid depictions of Muhammad is just as stupid....

It's like this. You take a child....flat out tell them they absolutely cannot have a cookie. Under no circumstances will you allow them to have a cookie. Now, the cookie is the only thing the child can think about. He is obsessed with it. Take for instance a portly guy from Wisconsin who couldn't get a girl for the life of him. Move him 1800 miles away....for sake of argument, lets say Phoenix....now all the girls in Wisconsin that he wanted....now want him. It is human nature to want what you can't have....yet the Vatican hasn't figured this simple fact out. I wonder if I could get boycotted by the Vatican...that would rule.

For any of you other suckers out there who actually saw the Da Vinci Crap...you are well aware of the amazing Paul Bettany who plays an albino monk in the film who is responsible for killing several people. This of course caused a backlash from the Albino advocacy groups about negative depictions of Albinos....I'm sorry....but not once during the movie was I thinking..."dude...Albinos Suck!". The dude happened to be an albino, he happened to kill some people...fucking deal with it. White anglo saxon protestants kill people in movies all the times...are depicted as criminals, rapists, pedophiles, Lawyers.....do they complain? Nope. The deal with it.

Then you got Gay Vito from The Sopranos, who finally got whacked. What do you think happened? The gay groups stayed silent of course! Or...not. As they do when ever ANYTHING happens related to gays on TV, the gay groups flipped out claiming this will cause a backlash against the gay community and promote hate crimes. To be fair, GLAAD (The Gay and Lesbian Association Against Democracy) did approve of the depition saying it brought a light on the brutality of hate crimes....but of course the majority of them were offended. They call for equality, yet comdemn anything negative happening to them. When it was mentioned that Vito was sodomized with a pool cue, I did what any red blooded american would do. I grabbed the nearest pool cue (in front of the fireplace by the pool table) and sodomized the nearest fag I could find......or rather did not. Vito came out as gay....and the mobsters reacted just as the would in REAL LIFE (the incident was based on truth). What did the gay groups expect to happen?

Vito: I'm gay.
Tony: oh yea? I'm gay too
Pauly: Yup....me too
Chris: Same here.
Sil: We're all gay Vito. Let's have a loving homosexual relationship and listen to some Liza!

It's fucking ridiculous. Fat people are always depicted as being unpopular, slobbish, pathetic, and the butt of everyone's jokes. Do I get offended? Do fat acceptance groups get upset that the only films in which a fat person has a relationship is a comedy? No. We don't. Fat people are arguably one of the most discriminated against groups in the country, yet are also the quietest.

So to all the minority/advocacy groups out there.....if you really want to affect change...shut the fuck up. Until then, I am going to watch everything you guys boycott no matter how crappy just to spite you.
