What Are Words?

Jan 16, 2008 - 03:52 AM PST

What are words?
Are they just a sound of consonances and vowels
shaped inside the mouth with tongue and on teeth
produced by the vibrations of a voice box in the throat?
Do they have no meaning?
Grow up!
What are words?
Are they just a message sent through the computer
consisting of 0’s and 1’s that appear as letters
and form sentences that one just reads?
Do they not invoke something?
Stop lying!
What are words?
Are they just ink or graphite scrawled across a piece of paper?
Are they just incoherent squiggles and marks
that pass before one’s eyes and hold nothing else?
Are they just words?
..
What are words?
Tell me!
What does you speaking/typing/writing really mean to me if they are only words?
..
Words are worthless without action.

I agree with StillSearching: Words are the most powerful thing that we have as humans. freals, what other animal on this earth can speak and be understood?

what about words meant solely to entertain, to muse on or to inspire contempt? words can inspire action, though no action may be required on behalf of the writer of speaker. words can be useless, yes, though i'd rather write or speak to entertain myself, rather than leave no impression on the silence that would otherwise pervade.

good question though...definitely something to consider...maybe we should all take a vow of silence and find out what it really is to live without words.

This is cool because I feel your frustration.

this is brilliant. really. words are nothing. they mean nothing. they are exactly what you said. something produced physically to pass the time in between acting upong them if someone choses to do so. either way, words will have meant nothing. its sad. A ++
